Just do it.  The famous Nike slogan is over 20 years old.  Advertisers have long said that ‘it pays to advertise.’  A main premise is that a slogan must be short, easy to remember and tied to a strong product or benefit.  That makes sense.  Coke has ‘it’s the real thing’; AT&T has ‘reach out and touch someone’; and, Lorea’l has ‘because you’re worth it’.
Today it’s called advertising because it’s a catchy little slogan to sell a product.  Who knows what it might have been called when Christ taught using parables.  He employed the use of catchy stories to help people remember what he was saying.  His product is paradise and eternal life.  After all, the more one remembers and thinks about something, the more likely it is to become a part of one’s intellectual life.  And maybe, eventually, it will become part of one’s spiritual life.
The sermon was about being a good example.  During the pastor’s discourse, he said it’s not about what we say but what we do.  And to do something, we must live it.  And to live it, we must do it without thinking.  That’s when the ‘just do it’ thing hit me, which led to the catchy slogans.  After all, being a good example means reaching out and touching someone, telling them it’s the real thing because they’re worth it.  While living in Texas I put out a newsletter and called it ‘News from Paradise’.  Paradise just happened to be the name of our church but it’s also our eternal destination.  And that’s what Christianity is—the good news from Paradise.
I appreciate all who made the bake sale at Wal-Mart a success;  the bakers, the setter-uppers, the sellers and most of all—the buyers.  Your support makes it possible for us to donate the money to the Pregnancy Clinic and Ava Victory Academy.
Copies of the sermon are always available and we would love to send you a CD of it.  They are free. Call (417) 543-6219 to get a copy.  However, if you would rather just pick one up, they are available at Strong’s Watch Shop in Barnes Shopping Center, Ava.
