Local promoters of the Ava Community Playground Project say the project is continuing to climb in the voting, and local residents are being asked to vote daily in the promotional opportunity.
The local project is said to be a finalist in the bid for a Pepsi Refresh Grant which offers a $250,000 grant to the non-profit sponsor of the playground project. The grant winner is chosen based on the number of votes each project receives. Voting is done online or by texting.
The unusual thing about this system of voting is that individuals are urged to vote each day through Oct. 31. And each person can vote three different ways each day – at www.refresheverything.com (search word: Ava); by texting 103398 to 73774; and by Facebook application.
Each cell phone number and e-mail address may vote one time per day.
The voting ends Oct. 31.
The playground project moved up from 250th place to the 140th place in a matter of 24 hours last week, and continues to rise this week.
A location for the playground has not yet been selected, but a tract of five to 10 acres is being sought.
