Ava Place

The residents at Ava Place continue to comment on the beautiful weather. The leaves are beginning to change colors across the street and the gentle afternoon breeze and sunshine make sitting on the front porch a favorite activity.
The Traveling Strings and Ava Opry provided great music for the residents this week. Ava Place residents always enjoy the old time bluegrass, country and gospel music. Many residents sing along with the familiar gospel hymns.
We have been making fall wreaths this week. They are colorful and fun to construct. Conversations during activities make us all remember the good times of apple butter making and pumpkin pies baking in the kitchen, cool mornings and warm fall afternoons.
Exercise is being made more interesting with the addition of basketball. The game is shooting hoops indoors. Some of the residents are very good at sinking the ball. Favorite games still include Yatzee and Farkle. Hair and nail care are enjoyed on weekends.
Sabrina Stout, activity director, and June Grigg, administrator, attended the Arthritis Foundations exercise program for instructor certification. The arthritis exercise program will begin this month and continue through the year. The instructor certification training was sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation. The program is taught on the St. John’s Health Systems campus. Exercise is so important for range of motion and mobility for people with arthritis. We want to provide an exercise program to help residents keep moving and be independent.
October is quickly going by. We want everyone to enjoy the weather and the beauty of the Ozarks. Have a wonderful month and fall season.
