Ava Kiwanis Club News

It’s a busy time of year with our club!  Thanks to Dolores and Connie for working soccer concessions for us on Saturday.

We have one week to go to finish up that fundraiser this Saturday.  Before this newspaper is published, we will have had the first of many Terrific Kids presentations of this school year, honoring students from Ava Victory Academy at 10 a.m. and Ava Elementary students at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11.

Some of our members planned to attend the Chamber Luncheon on Tuesday, which was hosted by and held at Bethany Baptist Church.

Our new club roster has been confirmed.  As with years before, we lost some members, however, we are hopeful that we will be gaining new members and have “more hands for more help for children.”

The Kiwanis year runs Oct. 1-Sept. 30, so we are started on a brand new year and that means it’s time for Officer Installation.  Our officers are all returning to their previous positions, but we will have an official ceremony just the same.

Our Lt. Governor Jim Brisco from Harrison, Ark., will be hand to conduct the formal installation at the end of the evening tonight (Thursday, Oct. 14) at 6:30 p.m. at the Highway House Cafe. The Heritage Singers have agreed to sing for us, and members, families and guests have sent in RSVPs so we will know how many to expect. It should be a great evening!

Mark your calendar for Oct. 28. On that night, we request the honor of your presence at Pizza Hut where our members will be working 5-8 p.m. raising money for “Christmas For Kids.”  We receive a portion of all dine-in receipts, so we would appreciate your support on that night, Oct. 28, 5-8 p.m.

Come and dine in and support a good cause!

We will be running concessions at an auction that John Sutton is doing soon.  I believe that will be the night of Oct. 30. The money raised there will also go toward “Christmas For Kids” and other projects we are involved with.  We certainly do appreciate the support of the general public when doing fundraiser activities.

If you love kids and/or have some free time on your hands, we would love to talk to you about becoming involved with our club! Please contact our president, Glenda Little, with questions or information requests at 683-6167.

We are always looking for new programs that would be of interest to our members as well as the public.  If you have a program to present, or have an idea for one, please contact Donna Dixon at 683-1918.
