Vida Maxine Smith passed away on Sept. 28, 2010 at 86 years, in her home with her family by her side.
Vida was born July 6, 1924 in Blanche, Mo., in Douglas County to Virgil and Lela (Thornton) Stout in the home of her grandparents, Jake and Ida Stout.
She graduated high school at Dora, Mo. Vida taught school in Douglas County going on to nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She loved working in the nursing field until she came to Drury in 1986 to care for her father. Vida was also an ordained minister with the Church of God for over 25 years and was a member of the Gentryville Church of God in Drury, Mo.
On Sept. 1, 1962 Vida and Chester E. Smith were united in marriage in Miami, Okla. They were happily married for 48 years.
Vida was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Byron Stout.
Vida is survived by her husband, Chester Smith, Drury, Mo.; three sons and their spouses, Bobby L. and Linda Smith, Cuba, Mo., John Martin and Cheryl Smith, Dora, Mo., and Chester Eugene Jr. and Robyn Smith, Drury, Mo.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special lifelong friends, Chester and Katie Riley; and special friend, Sherri Hall; and other family and friends whom Vida treasured and loved throughout her life.
Funeral services for Vida will be Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. at the Gentryville Church of God, Drury, with burial in the Gentryville Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Moore and Rev. Stasey Sheppard.
