Many gathered Tuesday, Sept. 28, to celebrate the VFW’s 111th anniversary and the 96th anniversary of the Ladies Auxiliary.
There were lots of finger foods along with a huge anniversary cake.
There were lots of booths showing what the VFW and Auxiliary is all about – veterans and family support, Buddy Poppy, National Home for Children, youth activities which include the American Patriot Art program, Junior Girls, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen and Teachers Award, Americanism and patriotic instruction, hospital and VAVS, community service and Legislation/PAC including Meet & Greet the Candidates.
Representatives from the offices of Roy Blunt, Robin Carnahan, Jo Ann Emerson and Tommy Sowers were there. Larry Bill was there in person, along with Bud Clinkingbeard and Larry Pueppke.
Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase spoke briefly about the upcoming proposal for a new jail.
Also present were representatives from hospitals in Poplar Bluff, West Plains, Fayetteville, Branson and Mt. Vernon. A representative for Americare was there, also.
