Last Thursday the Ava Lady Bears hosted Cabool for their second conference game of the season.
The Lady Bears fell to the Lady Bulldogs in an exciting 3-game match that included a marathon second game.
The Lady Bears came out strong for the first set and won, 25-22. The next set was a long battle with Cabool coming out on top 30-32, then the Lady Bears dropped the third and deciding set, 17-25.
The loss to Cabool drops the Lady Bears to 1-1 in the conference.
Emily Sterling led the team in aces with four and Bethany Horn had two aces as well. Jorie Garrett led the team in kills with 17, Samantha Martin added nine, Emily Sterling had six, Abby Dean had five, and Horn had two. Emily Petty led the team in assists with 35.
Monday night the Lady Bears hosted the Lady Tigers from Hollister. The Lady Bears won the match in two sets with the final score being 25-16 and 25-17.
“The girls really came out and played great and showed true teamwork with this win,” Coach Sarah Lemons said.
Martin and Horn led the team in aces with two a piece. There were several servers who were perfect for serving. Horn was 11-for-11, and both Lindsey Armour and Kristen Hasting were 4-for-4.
Petty led the team in assists with 21 and Garrett, Martin and Horn each added one apiece.
Garrett led the team in kills with eight, Abby Dean contributed six, Martin and Horn both had four, Sterling had two and Hastings had one.
The Lady Bears would travel to Mtn. View Liberty Tuesday night and then to Mtn. Grove tonight (Thursday) for two more conference games.
