Trinity Lutheran Church Table Talk

On this 18th Sunday after Pentecost we started our service with the Bible readings. They are as follows: Amos 6:1a, 4-7; Psalm 146; and the New Testament, Luke 16: 19-31.

Our lector was Jean Ruthledge.

Pastor Wayne Strohschein’s sermon was on the Gospel Luke 16:19 – 31 and Amos 6:1a, 4-7. What if you won the lottery? Would it change your values?, Would it change it your faith?
Would you be like the rich man in Luke’s story? Lazarus was truly the rich man.

In this season of Pentecost God has come near to us and we have to make choices. And we must listen
to God when he speaks to us.
Pastor Wayne said in his letter to the congregation that change has come to Trinity now that the vote has been taken and as we look back to what has been and there is much joy and pleasure that we can remember.

All that is the history of Trinity Lutheran Church, and is still a part of us. We merely changed our association with the church at large, the Lutheran Church that is beyond Trinity.

As we move ahead with the NALC, there are some unknowns, and that is okay. We need to remember there are also some things that are certain, that we depend on, lean on, that will see us into the next chapter of Trinity Lutheran Church history. We know where we stand with our faith, and we are together and most of all we know. We ask our God to be with us, that He might light our path as He did for ancient Israel, so that we might walk the path He sets for us.

It’s an exciting time for us at Trinity to be a founding member of a brand new Lutheran Denomination, an exciting time to be a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. It is also a time when we now need to look forward to what our witness will be in Ava and surrounding area. That witness has already begun in making known our leaving ELCA and why, and our joining the NALC and why. What is next? That is for us to talk about, plan and decide and then make it so, with God’s help and  prayers.

There will be a potluck luncheon after the service next Sunday. Please come and join us for the good food and the fellowship.

Monday at 5 p.m. at the church the Sunshine Singers will meet. There will be no workday on Wednesday.

Please mark your calendars for first and third Friday evening at 7 p.m. for game night and we do have a fun evening.

We wish to welcome all visitors and the new members that have joined us.

Please come join us Sundays, as we have Bible study at 9:30 a.m. and the church service at 10:45 a.m.

Communion is the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month and potluck luncheons are on the 1st and 3rd Sundays after the service.
