St. Francis Church

Sunday, October 3 was the eighteenth Sunday after trinity. Altar and vestment colors continue to be green, as trinity is the “green season” of growth, both physical and spiritual. Fr. Glen based his sermon on the gospel for the day, St. Matthew 22:34, in which the Pharisees ask Jesus “which is the great commandment in the law?” The religion of the time had become a preoccupation with laws and rules and following all 613 laws of the Old Testament. Jesus replies with an answer that pleases the Pharisees, quoting the traditional Jewish law. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart…” “But he doesn’t stop there adding his own commandment.” “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself,” thus changing the nature of our relationship both to God and to our fellow man.
Congratulations are once again in order to our acolyte Chandler Connell, Marcella Swatosh, high school principal at Norwood, announced this week that Chandler has been named a Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. We are very proud of our young people and their accomplishments.
In other news, a work-day has been set for October 17 and a vestry meeting for November.
Everyone is welcome at St. Francis Anglican (Traditional Episcopal) Church where Fr. Glen Hartley conducts services Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Visit or website at stfrancisavamo.org.
