QUAD CITIES

10-4-10 – It’s a beautiful fall day in this part of the Midwest. A little on the chilly side, but sunny and bright and hopefully it doesn’t get windy again. If not, what a super day.
I think the little humming bird finally left. I hope so even though I dreaded the thought of him flying so far by himself. The flock of wild turkeys are still making their rounds in the evenings. I didn’t know turkeys got to be so big. Some of there are huge. The little squirrels are still out and still entertaining us when were outside. We just see one at a time now, so I don’t know if it’s the only one left or if it’s different ones we’re seeing. They all look alike to me. I think one of them may have died. Two were in the front yard and one day one of them had something wrong with it and couldn’t stand up. It was trying to eat, but kept falling over. It went in a hole in the bottom of one of the trees and now the other one goes to the tree and stands straight up turned toward the hole in the tree then it turns toward us and stands up (on its back legs) and looks at us for a long, long time. It acts like it wants us to do something about the one in the tree. It’s so sad to watch it do that. This morning there’s a rabbit laying on the top feeder. It’s dead and just a little bit of its head ate off. We can’t figure out how it got up there and why something just ate a little bit of it like that and left the rest of it and why its on the feeder. The top one is way too high for it to climb up there and why would something catch it and put it up there and leave it. Really strange things happen around here. One day Walt came in and asked me if I killed that snake out there. I said, “No, I didn’t know there was one out there.” He had left a hoe at the corner of the house and came back to get it and there was a snake laying there that had been chopped with the hoe and still bleeding. That’s one of the biggest mysteries that have happened.
I’ve been getting some beautiful sunset pictures lately. I’ve got a few more pictures of the space station. One pictures shows the space station behind a cloud and I didn’t even know it was there. That happened once before too.
I’m waiting as long as I can to turn the furnace on. I just hate to start using it again, but it’s getting down in the thirties the last two nights. I’m using a little heater in the bedroom at night and it really works good.
We made our usual trip to Muscatine last Wednesday. Then I had to see my eye doctor in Tipton on Thursday. Everything looked okay except there’s a spot of blood in my right eye and he’s going to try to find out why, so I go to his clinic in Muscatine this Wednesday for more tests and then he wants to see me in Tipton in a month. He said it could be from my high blood pressure, but he wants to be sure of what’s causing it. I told him Walt  went to his doctor and had extensive blood work done and he didn’t find anything wrong with him and I told him I want to go to his doctor because mine always finds something wrong with me. Well, anyhow, I better get this in the mail, so bye, bye for now.
