Quad Cities

9-27-10. Good morning! It’s a beautiful fall morning here at the farm. We got a lot of rain again on Saturday, then yesterday was a fine day. We went out and shot some arrows yesterday and I really enjoyed it. It has been a long time since I had shot and I did a lot better than I thought I would. We sat outside for a while. When I went out to the front yard a little ground squirrel went into the hole into the hole in the bottom of the tree. I started talking to it and it came right back out and stood there and listened to me and was looking at me for a long time. Walt has a new pet, a little tree frog. He was sitting outside a few days ago and that little frog hopped up onto his lap. Then one evening we were on the porch and it was out there. Then yesterday he was out by the shed and saw the little frog and brought it and put it in a little birdhouse on the porch. Later on when we were sitting out Walt went to do something and the little frog was on the arm of his chair when he came back. It wasn’t at all afraid of him. He was petting it with his finger and it never moved. Later on he took it back out to the shed where he had found it.
It’s been getting pretty cool at night now. I sure do hate to start using heat again. I don’t use the wood stove anymore and I miss it, but the chimney is falling apart on top of the house and I can’t find anyone brave enough to go up there and fix it. The weather is supposed to be nice like this for the extent of the forecast, with no rain in sight. Now the farmers can get a lot of their corn and beans in out of the fields. They’ve been working on it.
Well, I haven’t been to any pow wows, archery shoots, Olympics, fairs, or anything this year. It seemed like the weeks have flown by so fast there’s not much time to do anything.
It was good to have all my family together again for Zoie’s birthday. She seemed to enjoy it a lot. I found out from Berta that Walt’s new great grandbaby is due in January and is going to be a girl. Her name is Savanna. I like that name. Everything seems to be going well so far. Her big brother Rylan will be one year old in January, so there will be two babies in their family.
We’ve still got one little hummingbird hanging on here. I’m worried about the little thing going on its long journey by itself. I guess it knows what it is doing.
I got a postcard of Mt. Rushmore from my cousin, Edna. They were out there in Montana, South Dakota and Canada. I wish I could have been with them. I miss the mountains.
I finally got a printer that doesn’t have to have a computer. It’s a Kodak, same as my camera. I really do like it. I haven’t heard anymore about my friend, Kay in VanCouver. I guess I should call and see if I can get a hold of her.
I still haven’t thought of anything bad to say about Frank.
Bye, bye for now.
