Olga News

We are pleased to announce that grandson, Nicholas’ book has just been released. The book “Our Neighbors” features the stories of 44 individuals. They include: Willis Case, Cobe Shields, Bill John, Perry Shook, Ellis Jackson, The Dickerson Ranch, Mickey Carroll, Fay King, Polly the Parrot, Virgil Young, Quentin Marlin, Alverta Hargis, Maxine Replogle, Freda Langston, George Lawson, Viola Weeks, Dr. Tommy Macdonnell, Doris Denby, Johanna Peck, Bill Stacey, Will Rogers, Ross Pringle, Karl Wickstrom, Lloyd Hargus, John T. Russell, Love Ridge, Arminta Jones, Kail Rost, Dr. J.E. Blinn, Craig Hosmer, Scott Fraker, Mary Wester, Ross Loveland, History of Olga and Kindall Store, Cline Herren Sr., Kindall Store, Bill Schroder, Webster County Fair History, Jones Brothers, Del Massey, Ruby Crawford and Speedy Haworth.

This book offers us a look into the fascinating lives of our Webster County residents and is captures a great deal of American History.

Also, there will be a book signing for this new book at the Webster County Library on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 2-3:30 p.m. Those who order a book will be able to pick them up there. The signing will feature many of those who are in the book, as they will be signing their own stories. This will be a great event and I know you will not want to miss it.

Donna Douglas (Elly Mae Clampett of the Beverly Hillbillies) and Maggie Peterson Mancuso (Charlene Darling of the Andy Griffith show) will be there as well to show their support of the author. Many have already expressed their desire to meet them as well. Donna Douglas will then be speaking at our church (Elkland Independent Methodist) on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m.

We were sorry to learn of the passing of Bill Laverty and Donald Dickerson. I understood from Sarah and Nicholas that they both had such nice services and I am sorry that I had to miss them both. We also send our condolences to the Ritterhouse family in the loss of their loved one.

Remember that the Dillion school reunion will be held this Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Kindall Store. They will be joined by students from Davis, Sherrow, Dogwood, Beaver, Greenwood, Barnett and Wagner. A potluck luncheon will be held at noon and group pictures of each school present will be taken beginning at 11:30 a.m.

All former students and teachers are invited to attend the reunion. This event will celebrate the 121st birthday of the Olga community. Also, you will be able to schedule tours (they are only conducted by appointment) for the Chateau Charmant (the castle in our neighborhood) while you are there.

Several from this community enjoyed a picnic luncheon at the Hampton’s Corn Maze on Sunday. There was a large group and a steady supply of roasted hot dogs. They then enjoyed the maze. We are really fond of Larry and Evelyn Hampton and their corn maze is always a popular place to visit.

I hope you have purchased your tickets for the Phantom Mascarade Ball, which will be held at the Chateau Charmant on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Also, Kindall Store will host trunk or treat on the same evening and the whole community is invited. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m.

Happy 14th birthday to grandson, Joey Inman. He celebrated his birthday this past week. He is growing up and it seems like the other day that he was only a little boy.

Well, I am off for an outing with Sarah and Reagan Inman today in Elkland. We are going to help with the free community dinners, which are held from 4-7 p.m. each Monday night at the Elkland Independent Methodist. There have been so many helped by this ministry and we have appreciated the neighbors in our community who have sent food that direction. It is always great to help your neighbor and in this current economy there are more and more in need of assistance. Have a blessed week and look forward to seeing you all out in our neighborhood in the near future.
