Dear Editor:
What does an individual have to do around Ava to get things made right? This city hired three companies to work on the water lines I’m told, and in the process these companies have made a wreck of most of our streets. They are terrible to drive on now. I was also told that they were supposed to come back and “cap” the areas they cut out and are now covered with gravel. I have seen no evidence of this capping even being attempted. Is the city doing anything about fixing the problem?
When they were cutting up and working on my street, they shoved a lot of their rocks into my ditch, completely filling it up to street level. I had a bad water drainage problem here before, but now it is untolerable (sic)!
Whenever it rained before, a lot of rocks washed down the street from somewhere and ended up (along with much of the gravel from my own driveway) washing onto my carport. Since my ditch was filled in the problem has grown many times worse. Not only is all the gravel washing onto my carport, but also it is now coming down my driveway with its full force and creating deep ruts. Some time after purchasing my house, I discovered a row of concrete blocks buried across between the driveway and carport; these deep ruts are now digging about half way below the tops of these concrete blocks! This never happened before my ditch was filled in.
I have called the city several times along with visiting city hall and the office next door where I was told they would call me as soon as they knew something. They have never called me with any information whatsoever. I’m wondering just what I have to do to get my ditch dug back out to the state that it was in before all this mess. I feel it is only fair that the city, or one of the companies hired by them that created the problem, to get it dug back out.
