On Sept. 23, the Ava Lady Bears Junior Varsity volleyball team took on the Cabool Bulldogs in a tense three game match.
The Lady Bears came out strong in the first game and won 25-19. However, the bulldogs rallied back during game two and won 25-14. Both teams fought and played hard during the third game of the match that resulted in Ava winning 25-22.
During the match, serving was a huge factor for the Lady Bears. Individuals leading in the field of serving included: Brittany Walker 16/17 with 2 aces; Makenzie Watterson 13/14 with 2 aces; and Glenda Haden 8/10 with 1 ace.
On serve receive: Cori Dry passed 10/12; Lauren Patton passed 8/11; and Watterson passed 9/12.
On hitting: Dry hit 7/10 with 4 kills; Erica Croney hit 3/4 with 3 kills; Patton hit 6/7; Walker hit 2/2 with 2 kills; and Haden hit 5/5 with 1 kill.
On Digs: Patton 16/18; Walker 12/15; and Haden 8/10.
On assists:
Walker had a great game setting the ball 18-of-18 times while Erica Croney was 18-of-19.
On Monday, Sept. 27 the Junior Varsity Lady Bears volleyball team competed against the Hollister Tigers in a home match.
Scores for the match consisted of three games with Ava coming out strong winning the first game 25-22 and then falling in the second game with the score being 22-25.
During the third game the team struggled with serve receive and the score was 13-25 with Hollister taking away a win. The junior varsity’s record is now 3-6.
Ava statistics for the match included, Serving: Croney 5/5; Patton 10/10; Haden 10/10 with 3 aces; Walker 6/7 with 1 ace; Watterson 8/10 with 1 ace; and Courtney Mings, 1-for-2.
Serve Receive: Dry 11/11; Nichole Randolph and Brittany Walker, each 5/5; Watterson 15/17; and Croney 3/3.
Hitting: Croney 8/9 and tipped 11/11 with a total of 7 kills; Patton 8/9; Dry 7/9 with 4 kills; and Watterson 8/10 with 2 kills.
Assists: Croney led the team with 42/43 with Walker following with 26/27.
Digs: Croney 14/17; Patton 16/21; Haden 8/12; Dry 22/28; Walker 13/15; Randolph 4/5; and Watterson 15/22.
The Lady Bears travel to Liberty on Tuesday night and travel again to Mtn. Grove to take on the Panthers on Thursday.
