Ava 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams had a busy week last week.
On Monday, Sept. 20, Ava hosted the Bears of Willow Springs and the 7th grade took their first loss of the season. After beating Willow the week before, Ava fell to them at home, 21-25, 21-25.
In game one Caley Wallace served 6/6, passed 9/9 and set 5/6; Bailey Loge served 3/3, and passed 8/8; and Haley Barker was 3/3 passing.
In game two Keeley Deal was 3/3 serving; Barker and Loge were both 4/5 serving, Barker was 8/9 passing and Loge was 18/19 passing; Hope Evans was 4/4 passing and 2/2 hitting with one kill.
The girls also played an extra 10-minute game which Ava was leading 18-17 when time ran out. Cheyenne Plaster and Emily Dougherty were each 3/3 serving; Kendra Walker was 2/3 serving and 2/2 passing; Billie Haden and Katelyn Walker were each 1/1 serving.
Ava 8th grade fell to Willow after a three-game match. In game one Ava won 25-18, but could not hang on to game two and fell 23-25, and Willow took the match in game three, 16-25.
In game one Destiny Sparnicht served 2/2, passed 16/16 and set 5/5; Calli Eubanks served 7/8 passed 7/7, set 10/10; Alena Stokes passed 16/17; Lakota Blakey passed 12/12 and had one kill; Brandee Cutbirth was 4/4 serving and 14/16 passing; and Shelagh Orcutt was 4/4 serving with one ace.
In game two Maranda Yost was 10/12 serving with 4 ace serves; Eubanks was 4/4 serving and 7/7 passing; Stokes went 16/16 passing; Blakey was 8/8 passing; Cutbirth was 9/10 passing; and Destiny Sparnicht was 4/4 hitting.
In game three Stokes was 6/6 serving; Blakey was 18/19 passing; Yost was 10/10 passing and 1/1 hitting with one kill; Eubanks was 10/10 setting and Blakey was 3/3 hitting.
The girls played an extra 10-minute game with Willow Springs which Ava won 20-15. Tailer Stofer was 7/8 serving with 2 aces; Megan Barnes was 3/4 serving with 1 ace and 3/3 passing; Josie Kjar was 2/2 serving with 2 aces; Jessie Davis was 2/2 serving 6/7 passing and Camie Goossen was 2/2 serving and 4/4 passing.
On Tuesday, Sept. 21 Ava traveled to Cabool. Ava 7th grade fell to Cabool in a three-game match.
Game one Cabool took 23-25, Ava won game two 35-21, but the Bulldogs came back and won game three 20-25.
In game one Cheyenne Plaster served 7/9, passed 2/2 and had one hit; Caley Wallace served 4/5 and set 7/7; Hunter Shelton served 3/4 with one ace and passed 4/4; Haley Barker hit 3/3 and had one kill; Bailey Loge passed 10/10, set 3/3 and hit 2/2.
Strong serving in game two helped provide a win. Wallace was 6/6 serving, 6/7 setting and had 2 kills; Loge was 7/7 serving, 8/10 passing, had 9 sets and one kill; Barker and Shelton were each 3/3 serving and Shelton was 3/3 passing and had 2 hits.
In game three Evans was 5/7 serving; Wallace was 9/10 passing; Loge was 12/14 passing; Shelton was 5/5 passing; Plaster was 3/3 passing and Kendra Walker served 3/4 and passed 6/7.
The team played an extra 10-minute game with Cabool which ended in a tie 18 all. Kendra Walker served 5/5; Plaster and Molly Henderson each served 2/3 and Dougherty passed 3/3.
Ava 8th grade also fell to Cabool in a two game match. Cabool won game one 22-25, and game two 21-25.
In game one Sparnicht served 4/4, passed 13/15, set 7/7 and hit 4/4; Eubanks served 4/5, passed 12/12, set 5/5 and hit 3/3; Stokes passed 7/8 and hit 5/5, Blakey was also 5/5 hitting and 14/14 passing.
In game two Sparnicht was 5/5 serving, 9/10 passing and 4/4 hitting; Eubanks was 7/7 passing, 8/8 setting and 5/5 on tips. Orcutt was 3/3 serving; Blakey was 4/4 serving and Barnes came in as libero and passed 5-for-6.
On Thursday, Sept. 23, Ava traveled to Houston to come home with two victories.
Ava 7th grade won soundly in two games, winning the first game 25-13 and game two 25-14.
For the match Barker was 6/8 serving and 6/6 hitting and 7/8 passing. Wallace was 11/12 serving 6/6 setting, 11/12 passing and 13/13 hitting. Loge was 11/11 passing and 16/16 hitting; Evans was 7/7 passing and 6/6 hitting; Plaster was 6/7 hitting; Shelton was 3/3 hitting and 4/4 passing and Kendra Walker was 4/5 passing and 4/4 serving.
They played an extra 10-minute game that Ava won 18-15. Katelyn Walker was 5/5 serving with one ace and 3/3 passing; Dougherty was 2/2 serving and 5/5 passing and Kendra Walker was 2/2 serving and 3/3 passing.
Ava 8th grade also beat Houston but needed three games. Ava won game one 25-15, fell to Houston in game two 23-25, but came back in game three and won 25-18.
For the match Eubanks served 10/10, set 21/22 and passed 29/30; Sparnicht served 5/6, set 12/12 and passed 30/31; Stokes served 10/11 and passed 18/19; Orcutt served 3/3 and passed 8/9; Blakey passed 24/27; Cutbirth passed 15/17; Yost was 6/6 passing; and Kjar was 3/4 passing.
There were several long rallies where Ava kept setting it up and hitting it back at Houston. “I was very proud that the girls came back after losing game two to win the match,” Coach Ann Leonard said.
The girls played an extra 10-minute game which Ava won 21-12. Kjar was 3/3 serving and 3/4 passing; Goossen was 2/2 serving and 6/6 passing; Stofer was 2/3 serving and 4/4 passing; Jessie Davis was 7/8 passing; Jenna Davis was 7/7 passing and 3/3 setting; Emily Patton was 3/3 passing; and Dylan Wright was 3/3 serving.
