Around Bradleyville

I have the nicest round pumpkin sitting on my counter. No, I’m sorry to say I didn’t grow it, I bought it at the grocery store. I saw it and it looked so perfect I couldn’t resist buying it. I don’t do fall decorations, I just basically ignore it is fall. I try to keep as many of my flowers alive as long as I can and some of them usually make it into late November. It’s not that I don’t like fall flowers, pumpkins, gourds, bales of straw and such, I think they are really pretty when I see them other places. I just don’t want to have the expense of decorating for fall and then Christmas. So, I make summer things last as long as I can, put out a few things a while before Thanksgiving and then start decorating for Christmas. This year may be different though, since I have the perfect pumpkin sitting on my counter.

There will be a revival going on all this week at the Taneyville Park located behind the post office. There will be different speakers each night. I know that Corby Lux was the speaker for Tuesday night but I’m not sure who else will be there.

I talked to Hobart Collins and he told me that the Blair/Collins reunion will be held on Oct. 9, starting at noon at New Vision Church, located on Highway 76 in between Taneyville and Kissee Mills Jct. Everyone is invited to come and visit and bring their special covered dish.

I talked to Betty Maggard and she wanted me to remind everyone that Hercules Church will be having their monthly singing this Saturday night, Oct. 9, starting at 6 pm. Everyone is invited, bring a song, your musical instruments, or just come to listen.

New Mansion Church will be hosting a Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 2-6 p.m. Some of the events will be a horseshoe tournament starting at 2 p.m., then at 4 p.m. an old fashioned singing, and at 6 p.m. there will be a pulled pork dinner. There will also be a pig scramble, kid’s corn maze, country store, old time pictures, and a hayride to the pumpkin patch. Everyone is welcome.

The Jr. High boys won a consolation trophy last Friday night in the Taneyville tournament, defeating Ava Victory Academy. Plainview got a third place win and Taneyville defeated Lutie for first place. All the games were a lot of fun to watch, congratulations to all the winning teams. All the teams played well and showed good sportsmanship.

The volleyball team will be playing an away game with Ava Victory Academy on Thursday night, Oct. 7 but I’m not sure of the location. They will have a game with Forsyth at home on Oct. 12.

The Jr. High boys and girls will have a game at Chadwick on Oct. 5, and play Lutie at home on Oct. 7. The Jr. High girls will be in a tournament at Thornfield the week of Oct. 11-15.
