Missouri Department of Conservation Black Bear Research Program

As part of an extensive research project, the Missouri Department of Conservation is trapping bears in southern Missouri. Through the project, MDC hopes to get an idea of how many bears actually exist here, how far they range, when and where they den in the winter, and much more, A bear was trapped in northern Douglas County, and the Herald was there Friday morning when researchers collected data and attached a tracking collar before releasing the adult female bear back into the wild.

If I might make a suggestion….Before you implement a hunting season in MO., PLEASE make it illegal to kill your collared research bears.
