St. Francis Church

Sunday, September 19 was the sixteenth Sunday after trinity. Fr. Glen based his sermon on the Epistle for the day, Ephesians 3:13, in which St. Paul addresses the new Christians at Ephesus in the form of a prayer on his knees and prays that they be strengthened by the Holy Spirit. The usual posture for prayer for Jews and early Christians was standing, so by kneeling Paul is humbling himself and asking for God’s help on behalf of the church at Ephesus.
This Sunday was a joyful day at St. Francis as four new members received confirmation in a moving ceremony led by Fr. Glen, who since his consecration on April 24 as Suffragan Bishop in the United Episcopal Church of North America, is now Bishop Hartley and is able to confirm new members. Receiving confirmation were Darlys Wynn, Anna Meador, Natalie Berthold, and Clay Kelly. Our acolytes, Chandler and Lincoln Connell assisted Bishop Hartley in the ceremony, after which family and friends of the confirmands joined them for coffee and snacks in the parish hall.
Everyone is welcome at St. Francis Anglican (Traditional Episcopal) Church where Bishop Glen Hartley leads services Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Visit or website at stfrancisavamo.org.
