The freshman and junior varsity volleyball teams competed against the Forsyth Panthers on Sept. 16.
The freshman team started rough with the score of the first game being 7-25 with Forsyth winning. However, the Lady Bears came out on fire during the second game of the match and won 25-13, but struggled to keep the momentum during the third game and lost 25-10. Individuals who led the Lady Bears include:
Courtney Mings served 17/21 with 10 aces, and served the majority of game 2.
Cassie Sioniker served 6/6 with 1 ace and Sarah Tabor served 5/7 with 1 ace
On serves received Ciara Fossett was 4/7, Deevala Rawlings 7/7, and Emily Armour 8/12.
On hitting: Ciara Fossett was 5/7, Cassie Sioniker 2/2, and Deevala Rawlings was 6/8, leading the team in kills with a total of four. Emily Armour and Courtney Mings were each 2-for-2.
On assists Courtney Mings was 7/7 and Deevala Rawlings was 9/11.
The JV Lady Bears came out ready to play after the freshman game. The match consisted of two close games with the Lady Bears taking a tough defeat. The scores for game one was 21-25 and game two 25-27. Individuals who led the Lady Bears include:
Serving: Lauren Patton 8/8, Glenda Haden 10/11, Makenzie Watterson 7/8.
Serve Receive: Erica Croney 11/12, Cori Dry 14/16, and Makenzie Watterson 12/12.
Hitting: Cori Dry 8/8 with 1 kill, Lauren Patton 3/3, Brittany Walker 4/4 with 1 kill and tipped 6/6 with 1 kill, Erica Croney 3/6 with 2 kills and tipped 8/8 with 5 kills.
Assists: Brittany Walker 12/12 and Erica Croney 16/17.
On Monday, Sept. 20, the Ava Lady Bears traveled to Fordland where they picked up their first win in a two game match! Scores for the match consisted of game one 25-16 and game two 25-9.
Individuals who led the Lady Bears include: Serving: Makenzie Watterson 15/17 with 8 aces, Brittany Walker 9/11 with 5 aces, and Courtney Mings 4/4.
Serve Receive: Lauren Patton 6/7, Cori Dry 5/5, and Makenzie Watterson 12/13.
Hitting: Cori Dry 9/12 with 2 kills, Lauren Patton 5/6, Glenda Haden and Brittany Walker both hit 3/4, and Erica Croney 6/9 with 4 kills.
Digs: Erica Croney 5/5, Cori Dry 7/7, and Nichole Randolph 4/4.
Assists: Erica Croney 20/21, and Brittany Walker 16/16.
The Junior Varsity Lady Bears were pumped up and ready to play again Tuesday night. They took on Salem where they pulled off another win in a 3-game match.
Serving was a key factor in the victory for the team and Glenda Haden led the team in serving and accounted for many of the points earned. Glenda served a total of 27/29 with four aces.
Others serving for the Lady Bears included: Brittany Walker 9/12 with 4 aces, Makenzie Watterson 5/5 with 1 ace, Erica Croney, Lauren Patton, and Cori Dry all served 3/4.
Serve Receive: Lauren Patton 12/12, Makenzie Watterson 18/22.
Hitting: Erica Croney 13/14 with a total of 8 kills, and tipped 7/7. Overall she had a total of 12 kills for the night. She did a great job at the net playing middle for the team, Coach Janell Stewart said.
Cori Dry was 7/12 with 4 kills and Lauren Patton 4/6 with 1 kill.
