I finally got our yard mowed and it looks nice. More hot weather this week will mean another mowing job in the near future. I need to do a lot of weeding this week also, here in my yard and at the Bradleyville Cemetery. I don’t know how weeds grow three times as tall as the grass on the same amount of rain. At least there is something to keep me busy.
My niece, Deana Magnuson and her family participated in a walk to defeat ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Deana’s dad, Bryon Porter passed away earlier this summer from this awful debilitating disease. She said the walk they were involved with raised over $77,000 for the organization.

The Jr. High girls will be playing basketball at Bradleyville this week in the Bradleyville tournament, starting Monday night, Sept. 20 at 7 o’clock when they play Ava Victory Academy. They will play again on Tuesday night, against either Lutie or Mark Twain, depending if they win or lose on Monday night, and then possibly on Friday night. Other schools in the tournament include Taneyville, Thornfield, Plainview and Skyline.
The Jr. High boys will have the week off and then next week they will play in the Taneyville tournament.
We had a nice crowd at New Mansion Church last Sunday night to hear Corby Lux deliver the message for Youth Night. This was Corby’s first sermon after being called into ministry. Corby did a wonderful job bringing the message to the youth and the grown-ups too. Several of the children got up to sing special songs and did great.
I got to watch an interesting video online showing what the linemen that work for our electric co-op do on a day to day basis and what they do when they are on call. It was extra interesting to me because my son-in-law Jason Crouch was in the video, along with several other young men I know, including John Combs, Junior Koenig, and Rick Burkhart. If you have Internet access, you can go to the co-op’s website to see the video. I for one appreciate what they do every day and especially when they have to get out in the middle of the night and during thunderstorms or snowstorms.
