2010 State Logging Competition To Be Held in Doniphan

JEFFERSON CITY –– Loggers across the entire state of Missouri are encouraged to “Come, Cut & Conquer”, during the annual Missouri State Logging Competition on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The competition is held in conjunction with the Timberfest in Doniphan, Mo. and begins at 8 a.m.  There are two categories including Professional Loggers and Landowner.  The event is sponsored by the Missouri Forest Products Association (MFPA).  Contestants must have completed the Professional Timber Harvester Program to compete.

Starting at 8 am, top loggers from around the state will demonstrate their skills at various events, including the bore cut, spring pole, bucking cut, and tree felling.  The winner of the professional logger competition will receive $1,000 and a Dolmar chainsaw and the landowner receives $500 and a Dolmar chainsaw.

The winner will advance to the Game of Logging (GOL) National Final competitions.

“These competitions are unique because there is true occupational pride on the line, said MFPA Communication and Education Manager Tammy Homfeldt “Once you add in the cash and prizes, interest comes from all over the state.”
