Students of the Month at Ava High School and Ava Victory Academy were recognized at the September luncheon meeting of the Ava Area Chamber of Commerce.
Each of the students recognized was presented a $50 savings bond by Great Southern Bank.
September’s Student of the Month for Ava Victory Academy is junior Ciera McCoy. Ciera is a dedicated and motivated student, maintaining a 3.9 GPA, and consistently ranked in the top 10 percent of her class. She completes assignments in a timely manner and always gives 110 percent.
She is a member of Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Missions Club where she participated in the mission trip to Nicaragua this past summer. Ciera is an avid horsewoman and is active in the Fox Trotters. She also plays volleyball with the Lady Crusaders.
Ciera has been actively involved in ACES for the last two years, a program for high school students who are interested in healthcare careers. Through this program, Ciera has had the opportunity to job shadow at Cox Hospital in a variety of areas related to pediatrics, work on community service projects like MASH Camp, attend workshops and volunteer at the hospital. She is actively working toward the goal of pursuing a career in the medical profession as a pediatrician.
Students of the Month at Ava High School are Josh Dewaard and Bethany Loge.
Josh is the son of Ron and Tracy Dewaard. He is involved in TREND, Future Farmers of America, Skills U.S.A., and runs the sound equipment for the Ava Performing Arts Center drama presentations.
When Josh graduates from high school, he plans to go to college at Linn Tech to become a motorcycle mechanic or attend Missouri State University for law enforcement.
Josh’s teachers nominated him because he is a compassionate young man who befriends new students and makes them comfortable at Ava High School. Josh is always polite and strives to excel in everything he does.
Bethany is the daughter of Jamie and Jana Loge.
Bethany is involved in Pep Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, TREND, Link Crew, and Anchor Club.
When Bethany graduates from high school, she plans to attend Missouri State University in Springfield and earn a business management degree. She would like to come back to Ava to open her own restaurant.
Bethany’s teachers nominated her because she is extremely thoughtful. She displays excellent leadership in class as well as the clubs in which she is a member. In Link Crew, she goes out of her way to help the freshman transition into high school.
Bethany is interested in learning new things and takes classes outside the regular high school requirements because she enjoys learning.
