Dear Editor:
Out of curiosity I wonder if the following tallies have ever been taken in the City of Ava and what are the results of those tallies. For instance:
1) How many houses are there within the city limits?
2) How many of those houses are sitting empty?
3) Of the empty houses, how many would be considered derelict? Pest infected? Moldy?
4) How many homes in Ava would not meet a basic, safe standard for human residency?
Many years ago I lived in a similar small city and the four questions posed here related that much help was needed. That city managed to get assistance from HUD grants and now is a city of which to be proud.
Even though I don’t have an Ava address, Ava is “my town”, where I work, shop, and where I go to church. I want to be proud of Ava but would never take guests on a street by street tour.
Are answers available?
