Hootin an Hollarin At Gainesville This Weekend

Gainesville’s 50th annual Hootin an Hollarin will kick off today (Thursday) in downtown Gainesville, with activities planned every day and each evening.

Activities will get under way at 5 o’clock today with a quilt show, live music and the annual queen pageant. Square dancing will close out the day’s events beginning at 9 o’clock.

It all starts again Friday morning at 10 a.m. with music throughout, as well as a costume parade, the Li’l Cedar Pete and Li’l Miss Addie Lee contest, and the princess pageant in the afternoon. Square dancing will again close out the program at 9 o’clock.

Saturday’s activities will start at 9 a.m. with horseshoe pitching, and the day will include events for the more cultured folks, such as outhouse races, husband and pig calling as well as turkey and cow calling, and lots of live music.

The Citizen of the Year will be recognized on the Hootin an Hollarin stage at 12:45 Saturday.

There will be fireworks at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by more square dancing.
