Ava Middle School Girls Defeat West Plains In Volleyball Action

The Ava Lady Bears 7th & 8th grade volleyball teams traveled to West Plains to open their season on Sept. 9.  Both teams came home victorious.

Ava 7th grade took three games to defeat the Zizzers. In game one Ava won 25-20; the Zizzers took game two 22-25, and Ava won game three, 25-21.

The 7th grade showed a lot of teamwork in this first match. With three very close games, they didn’t let up and battled for their first win.

Bailey Loge had great serving all through the match. In game three she was 13/13 with four ace serves. She was also 17/19 passing.  Caley Wallace and Loge, the team’s setters, set the ball well and Wallace was 11/12 setting and Loge 8/8 setting; Wallace was also 16/18 passing; Haley Barker was 6/8 serving and 8/9 passing; Hope Evans passed 11/13. Cheyene Plaster came in in game three and served 4/5 with an ace serve.

The girls also played an extra 10 minute game with the Zizzers. At the end of 10 minutes Ava was leading 18-15.

Molly Henderson served 5/6 with three ace serves; Kendra Walker served 3/4 with two aces and passed 2/2. Katelyn Walker was 3/3 passing and Kayla Walker was 3/3 setting.

The 8th grade beat West Plains soundly in two games.  In game one Ava won 25-9, and in game two Ava won 25-10.

In game one Lakota Blakey served 10/10 and passed 11/12 and was 4/4 hitting with two kills. Alena Stokes was 6/7 serving and 6/6 passing; Callie Eubanks was 12/12 passing, 10/10 setting and had two kills. Brandee Cutbirth was 7/7 passing; and Shelagh Orcutt was 2/3 serving with one ace serve.

In game two Lakota served well again serving 7/8. She was also 3/3 passing; Destiny Sparnicht was 4/4 serving, 3/3 passing and 3/3 setting. Brandee Cutbirth was 4/4 passing and libero Maddie Guill came in both games to provide strong passing for the Lady Bears.

The 8th grade also played an extra 10 minute game, which the Zizzers were leading 17-12 at the end of 10 minutes. Dusty Graham was 4/4 serving and 4/4 passing; Tailer Stofer was 4/6 serving with one ace, 3/3 passing and 3/4 setting; Megan Barnes was 2/3 serving and 3/3 passing and Jenna Davis had two hits.
