Updated – White River Fire

Fire that was detected by the building’s alarm system just before midnight Thursday did major damage to one White River Valley Electric Coop truck that was parked inside the truck bay. However, the sprinkler system on the building located on NW 9th Street in Ava did its job in containing the blaze until the City of Ava Fire Department arrived.

The fire obviously started in the truck that was damaged, but the sprinklers kept the blaze from spreading to other equipment in the large truck bay which is attached to the business office on the west side.

There were six trucks, a forklift and a utility vehicle parked in the garage area. With the exception of the affected truck, the other equipment only received some exterior smoke.

White River Electric Co-op’s business office at Ava will be open as usual. The office area was not affected by the fire.
