Students in Grades 9-12 are urged to enter the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest sponsored by the Ava Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States Post 5993 and the Ladies Auxiliary. The essays are due to the Post before Nov. 1, 2010.
The National Commander’s Theme this year is: “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?”
Students in Grades 6-8 are urged to enter the Patriot’s Pen Essay contest also sponsored by the VFW and the Ladies Auxiliary. These essays are also due before Nov. 1.

Anyone can nominate a teacher (except a relative) for the Teacher’s Award that promotes citizenship education, civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism. This contest is also sponsored by the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary. These nominations must be received at the post before Nov. 1.
