“How many of us could use more of the love of God in our hearts?” What a question! Well, of course we could always use more love. Watch out! It’s a trick question. Our dear preacher was speaking to the selfish side of man’s character. And, just naturally enough, the response was a resounding YES!
Now we come to the trick part. It wasn’t so much the using part that matters, it’s the showing part. So, the real question is this: How many of us could show more of the love of God in our hearts? That brings us to the last part of Revelation 22:17 which says that whoever wants the water of life can have it for free. And, John 7:38 which says that those who believe on Jesus as the scriptures say will have rivers of living water flow from them.
There are days in everyone’s lives that nothing seems to go the way it should. Some are just getting by as it is. Something happens like the air conditioner breaks down and it has to be fixed. Times are tough but it needs to be done. That’s when the car breaks down and needs a thermostat. A car is a must have to get to work. It’s got to be done. Now it’s worrying time. Please don’t let anything else go wrong.
Worry and stress cause people to be distracted. The next thing that happens often tips people over the edge and they blow up. It was one thing too many. Things would be better if someone cared. More love is certainly needed then. But what would have happened if, instead of needing more love, more love was shown? Love is free, it’s like the living water. Everyone has problems. Even churches have problems. It’s during trying times that showing love is important.
