The Ava Lady Softball Bears picked up non-conference wins this week over Springfield Parkview and Marion C. Early of Morrisville.
With the wins, the Lady Bears are 6-2 overall.
On Tuesday, the Lady Bears rallied for seven runs in the second inning and went on to defeat Morrisville, 10-3.
Morrisville took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and added one in the top of the second to hold a 3-0 lead.
Ava answered in the bottom half of the inning with seven runs, and that would be more than enough. The Lady Bears added one in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put the game away.
Morgan Emerich and Sierra Sharp were each 1-for-4 with doubles, and each drove in two runs. Payton Lakey was 1-for-3 with a triple and scored two runs for the Bears.
Jessie Eubanks also drove in two for Ava and scored a run, and Hannah Johnson had an RBI and two runs scored, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
Ashlyn Mitchell pitched for Ava and got the win.
Mitchell and Kayla Dougherty also made up the battery on Labor Day when the Ava ladies pounded Springfield Parkview 17-1 in three innings.
Parkview scored its only run in the bottom of the first inning, and Ava erupted for 15 in the top of the second, adding two more in the third to end the game.
Lakey had the big stick of the day with a double and a triple and six runs batted in.
Melissa Coonts was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Abbie Lansdown was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Abby Sparnicht was 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Sierra Sharp and Celena Clouse each drove in a run for Ava.
The girls are scheduled to travel to Rogersville today (Thursday) and will be at home against Hartville next Tuesday.
