JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon appointed paramedic Richard L. (Rick) Miller, of Ava, as the new coroner for Douglas County, effective Sept. 1. The position of coroner became vacant upon the resignation of former Douglas County coroner Mark Pearson.
Miller, a Republican, is a certified paramedic for Cox Health System. He has been with Cox as a paramedic and an EMT since 1992. Miller, an Ava High School graduate, has completed certification instruction and other training from the Missouri Department of Public Safety, Drury University, St. Johns Hospital and Cox Health System.
“Richard Miller’s background and experience in emergency response and law enforcement will help him in ably serving the citizens of Douglas County,” Gov. Nixon said.
Miller was sworn in by Douglas County Clerk Karry Davis Thursday morning at the courthouse. He will serve until the position comes up for the regular election cycle in 2012.
