The Dean Downs family of Ava was among the 106 families honored during the Missouri State Fair’s Farm Family Day, Aug. 16. The Downs operate a 200-acre beef operation in Douglas County.
The Downs were selected as the Douglas County Missouri State Fair Farm Family by the Douglas County Extension Council and local Farm Bureau. Each year the fair sets aside a day to recognize farm families from across the state that are active in their community, involved in agricultural activities.
The annual event was sponsored by Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri State Fair, University of Missouri Extension and the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
