A 16-year-old Ava teen was hurt last Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 25, in a one-car crash east of Ava on Highway 14. And a 15-year-old Ava girl was injured in an ATV crash near Rockbridge, in Ozark County, on Sunday, Aug. 29.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Shalyen N. Miller, 16, was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield on Aug. 25 following the 5:10 p.m. crash east of Ava.
Miller was traveling west on Highway 14 in a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro when she failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway and struck a fence and tree.
The wreck occurred eight miles east of Ava. Miller’s injuries were listed as moderate by the investigating officer, Cpl. Brian Thompson, of the Highway Patrol.
Highway Patrol Tpr. Justin Piccinino reported that 15-year-old Kelli Chambers, of Ava, was hurt at 5:30 p.m. Sunday when she lost control of the 2000 Kawasaki Prairie ATV she was riding on County Road 142 in the Rockbridge area.
Chambers was taken to Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains, by Ozark County Ambulance, suffering moderate injuries.
Also taken to OMC by ambulance was a passenger, Paulina Chavez, 15, of Gainesville, who sustained minor injuries.
The girls were hurt when the westbound ATV began to skid and traveled off the left portion of the roadway. The front of the machine struck a tree and overturned, ejecting both occupants.
