A native of Ava, Gary Kester returned to his hometown community five years ago upon retirement. Gary is a graduate of Ava High School, a member of the Class of 1960.
Prior to retirement, Gary was employed as a Spanish teacher, and as a clerk in the Strand Bookstore in New York City.
Gary has served as a community correspondent for the Herald for the past two years. He writes the St. Francis Church news column.
Gary enjoys learning about the history of Ava, and the Douglas County community. He has spent many hours at the Herald researching topics and historical events noted in the newspaper.
