To show appreciation for all the hard work done by emergency responders, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 5993 and the VFW Post 5993 will be serving breakfast on Sept. 11. Invited are all Douglas County firefighters, police, EMTs, Sheriff’s Department, and first responders.
The breakfast will be served at the Russell T. Scott VFW Post on Washington Avenue across from the Ava Post Office from 8 to 10 a.m. Biscuits and gravy, sausage links, coffee, orange juice and water will be served.
Emergency response organizations are asked to contact their people and RSVP with the total number that will be attending the breakfast at 683-5526 by Friday, Sept. 3. If no answer, please leave a message with your agency name and the number that will attend.
“You serve us every day so it will be our pleasure to serve you on Sept. 11, 2010,” said Connie Lansdown, chairman, Patriotic & Americanism Committee, Ladies VFW Auxiliary Post 5993, and appreciation breakfast chair.
Highway Church of the Nazarene has also announced it will serve a free hamburger barbecue to city and county employees, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and law enforcement officers on Friday, Sept. 10, in recognition and remembrance of 9/11.
The meal will be served at the lower pavilion next to the Ava Water Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 10.
