The spinning wheel shown above was photographed in the home of Edwin Hailey of Ava, Mo., and the lady at the wheel is Betty Hailey Young of Marshfield, Mo. This wheel came from the home of Joseph B. and Anna McAdoo Hailey. Joseph Hailey, whose name appears on the historical monument on the Ava square. was born March 14, 1858, and died Dec. 2, 1936.
In 1940, Joyce Andrews, granddaughter of James Hailey, invited all who would come, to attend a family reunion at her home at the south edge of Webster County on what is now “Backwoods Road”. This reunion was a great success, and a Hailey family reunion has been held every year since 1940.
This year is the 70th consecutive reunion get-together.
All family and friends are invited to come Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, to enjoy the food and fellowship from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ava Super 8 Motel conference room. Please bring your basket dinner, or just come in the afternoon for a social. Some interesting items will be on display for you to see and enjoy.
