The Skyline R-II Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, Aug. 12 with all members present.
The consent agenda items were discussed and approved.
In old business, the board approved a modified Career Ladder plan for the 2010-2011 school year since the state will not be supporting that program this year.
The plan allows for teachers to complete 60 hours, 75 percent of those hours have to be in tutoring.
The other 25 percent can be either curriculum development or working with academic groups.
Teachers do not have to do the entire 60 hours, they will only be paid for the hours they complete.
Several items were discussed and approved in new business: repair of air conditioning unit, ASBR, adopting the eligibility criteria for Free and Reduced price meals, the Federal Programs and Special Education Assurance statements and accepting the Conflict of Interest ordinance.
A tax rate hearing was set for Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. for anyone wishing to discuss the tax rate for this year.
The board accepted the bids of Sara Lee, Hiland Dairy, Hunter Oil and Empire Gas for bread, milk, diesel and propane, respectively.
Handbooks for the 2010-2011 school year were approved with minor changes from last year.
Three items were discussed regarding transportation.
The board approved to continue to provide transportation for students that live less than one mile for the school.
The board decided not to provide transportation to ball games again this year.
Bus routes for the 2010-2011 school year were presented and approved.
In the superintendent’s report: School started Aug. 18 with teacher meetings being held Aug. 16 and 17.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
