Reporting Party May be Charged For Making False Report
Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase said this week that he has received many phone calls inquiring about an attempted abduction of a female in the Goodhope area.
Degase said alleged incidents were investigated by the Highway Patrol and the Sheriff’s Department, and it was determined that the reports were false.
Last week, sheriff’s deputies and the Highway Patrol responded to a residence in the Goodhope area on a wide range of alleged incidents over a three-day period, including burglary, trespassing, property damage and an attempted abduction.
After deputies were dispatched to the same residence three nights in a row, Sheriff Degase responded and interviewed the alleged victim who was also later interviewed by Lt. Atonya Mansi.
After several hours of investigation, including surveillance of the property until 3 and 4 a.m. on two nights, the victim stated the incidents had not occurred and she had made the entire story up.
Sheriff Degase said the investigation is ongoing and additional interviews are scheduled with the subject to determine if criminal charges will be sought for filing a false report.
