The Douglas County Republican Central Committee met Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse for the reorganizational meeting.
Chairman Bonita Stafford asked James Hathcock to lead in prayer, followed by the Pledge to the Flag.
Bonita then read the names of all the committee people. There are four townships that do not have anyone serving at the present time.
The first order of business was to elect a chairman and vice chairman. Bonita has declined the position of chairman this year.
Donald Potter was elected chairman and Bonita volunteered to be vice chairman. Loy Shortt was retained as treasurer and Betty Moore as secretary.
Donald asked that Bonita be given a round of applause for her many years of service. He then asked that the committee try to find people who will serve as committee people and let the committee know so they can be approved.
The next business was to decide how much money would be used to support county, state and federal candidates.
Ross McElvain made a motion that a letter be sent to Property Rights Congress conveying thanks to them. He will write the letter and Donald will sign it, and it will be mailed.
