Football Jamboree This Friday Night At Pierce City; Fall Sports Seasons Will Get Under Way Next Week

Ava Teams Show Their Stuff at Booster Club Scrimmages

The Ava Football Bears will travel to Pierce City this Friday night for the preseason Jamboree.

The Jamboree will begin at 6:30 and will involve teams from Ava, Mt. Vernon and Pierce City.

The Jamboree gives coaching staffs an opportunity to see their players in action against other teams, but in a controlled scrimmage format. Each of the teams will run both offensive and defensive plays against each of the other teams involved in the Jamboree.

The Bears will officially open the 2010 football season at home on Aug. 27 in non-conference action with Strafford.

The Lady Bears softball team will host Springfield Glendale next Monday, Aug. 23, beginning at 4:30, and the Ava VolleyBears will open their season at home on Tuesday, Aug. 31, against Springfield Catholic.

The volleyball action will begin at 5 o’clock with 9th grade, junior varsity and varsity action all packed into one evening’s action.

The Ava cross country team will see its first competition on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Strafford Invitational.

The Ava 7th and 8th grade Bears will open their football season at home against Willow Springs on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 5:30. The 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams will travel to West Plains on Sept. 9 for their first official action of the season. Those games will begin at 5:30.

Sports fans got an opportunity to meet the coaches and see the players in action last Friday when the Ava Bear Booster Club sponsored the annual scrimmages to kick off the fall campaign.

The volleyball teams took the court in the high school gym at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and the event concluded Friday evening at the football field with a football scrimmage as well as food for the players, parents and Booster Club members.

The softball team took the field at 5:30, and the cross country team also made an appearance there at that time.

The cheerleaders and the high school band performed at the football field, giving fans a taste of just about everything that is in store for the fall sports season at Ava High School.
