Ava Drug and the Ava Art Guild are collaborating on a contest called “The Way We Were.”
This is part of the month-long celebration of Ava Drug’s 60 years of business. David Norman owner of the Ava Drug Store has gathered pictures of citizens from Ava’s history and they are on display at the Ava Art Guild and Gallery. “These are people that were part of making Ava what it is today, including teachers, town leaders and citizens,” said Liz Jenkins of the Art Guild.
The contest consists of pairing a face and a name of these town leaders. Inside the Ava Art Gallery is a poster with pictures of these citizens past and present. All you have to do is put them together correctly with the names on the entry sheet. The prize for the contest is a gift certificate to the “Chateau on the Lake” in Branson, a fabulous trip with a $400 value.
The winner can use the gift certificate as he or she chooses for accommodations at the Chateau, and attractions or shows. The Chateau can arrange for the tickets, a one location shopping/travel luxury experience. If more than one person pairs all of the names and faces correctly, the winner will be chosen at random from the correct entries. The entry must be completed at the Art Guild and cannot be removed from the building.
The Ava Art Guild promotes art and the appreciation of art in the community through art in the gallery, art shows and special projects throughout the year. The Ava Art Guild will be meeting on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. for social time, a business meeting at 1:30 p.m. and an art workshop at 2 p.m.
This month the guild members will be doing Japanese brush painting. The public is encouraged to attend and there is no charge for the workshops.
Come and enjoy a fun afternoon and learn a new painting style. Membership in the Art Guild is $10 a year but it is not required to attend the workshop. The Art Guild and Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 303 E. Washington Ave, in Ava.
