Letter To The Editor 8/12/10

It is time to make a mention of the DoCo plant in Ava.

I am all for recycling, and I do not live in Ava.  I live in rural Ava, south of the city, and I go to great lengths to recycle.  Others around me simply burn or throw their recyclables in the regular trash headed for the landfill.

First they started charging for glass, and I even tried that, and waited for over 10 minutes in the office and rang the bell four times and no one ever came out.  So, I quit recycling glass, it now goes to the landfill.  Gee, what good is recycling if they don’t recycle?

Now they are locking up the entry so you can’t recycle except when they are there! Another huge inconvenience.  I am not always ready to bring my stuff to town when they are open.  So they are making it further of an inconvenience to recycle, so guess I am going to start burning cardboard instead of bringing it to town.  Why bother, they really don’t want it anyway.

So, my point is, why are they making it so difficult to do the right thing?  People that abuse the center are not going to stop simply because they put up a barrier to keep people out of the driveway, they are either going to throw it over the barrier or jump it and dump their junk anyway.

The true recyclers are not abusing the center, and they are going to stop recycling if it becomes too bothersome to abide by the “new” rules which seem to pop-up with more regularity and they want to recycle less and less.

Thanks,

Walt Walters
