With the start of the 2010 Missouri State Fair less than three weeks away, the Missouri State Fair Foundation (MSFF) is hard at work preparing to help fairgoers “grow great memories” Aug. 12-22.
During the Fair, the MSFF will again be responsible for the State Fair Museum and VIP Parking Lot, as well as selling bottled water and souvenirs. The Foundation also coordinates two major events: the “Building the Future” fundraising banquet and auction (Aug. 11) and the Governor’s Ham Breakfast (Aug. 19). All proceeds from those activities help fund the MSFF and its programs.
“While many fairgoers are aware of the services that we offer during the Fair, we are afraid many of those people do not know about the organization behind those services,” said Jeremy Parsons, MSFF executive secretary.
The MSFF is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)3 entity dedicated to preserving the rich heritage and traditions of the Missouri State Fair.
“Our goal is to provide the best possible setting for all Missourians to showcase their best every August at the Fair,” said Parsons. “We are attempting to reach that goal by constructing new facilities and renovating our beautiful historic buildings.”
Since its establishment in 1998, the MSFF has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Missouri State Fair for a variety of projects, including construction of the FFA Building and State Fair Museum; renovation of the Home Economics Building; sewer, water and electrical upgrades in the campgrounds (more than $40,000 worth of improvements); and the installation of 50 benches on the fairgrounds.
Besides fairgrounds improvements, the MSFF also recognizes the importance of Missouri’s youth and their role at the Missouri State Fair by distributing more than $25,000 in college scholarships.
