Smiths To Perform At Library

Dwayne and Barbara Smith, musicians and storytellers, will be performing comic songs, gospel songs, ballads and stories from times gone by in the Ozarks and the British Isles on Thursday, August 5 at 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Public Library.
The Smiths, from Joplin, have been performing music and storytelling programs professionally for 12 years.
They have performed regularly at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Ark., as well as at historical societies, schools and senior citizen centers.
Festival performances include the Festival of American Music and Craftsmanship at Silver Dollar City in Branson and the Old Time Music Ozark Heritage Festival in West Plains.
Sit back and enjoy a leisurely journey to the days of the early settlers in the Ozark and Appalachian mountains, and their ancestors from the British Isles.
You will hear the Smiths perform traditional songs like “Old Dan Tucker” and “Turkey In The Straw” and some almost-forgotten Ozark gems like “Good Old Turnip Greens.”
Dwayne and Barbara involve audiences with a very unusual variety of folk instruments, among which include guitar, banjo, mandolin, Jew’s harp, folk drum, spoons, washboard, autoharp, recorders and an accordion.
Come and share a truly different entertainment and cultural event.
Admission is free.
The Douglas County Library is located at 301 SW Third Avenue in Ava.
