A Republic man died just after noon Sunday as a result of a motorcycle crash in Douglas County east of Ava.
The Highway Patrol said Waylon T. Swalley, 40, was traveling west on Highway 14, 6.5 miles east of Ava when the 2010 Yamaha motorcycle he was riding ran off the right side of the road and overturned.
Swalley was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck at 1:12 p.m. by acting coroner Lt. Atonya Hampton, of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Dept. The body was taken to Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava.
The crash, which was investigated by Cpl. Brian Thompson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, occurred at 12:15 p.m., the report said.
This was the 18th traffic fatality in Troop G this year, compared to 25 at the same time last year.
Celicia J. Ellison, 57, Ava, was seriously injured in a one-car wreck 10 miles west of Ava on Highway 76 last Wednesday, July 21.
Ellison, who driving a 2001 Lexus eastbound, was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield following the 3:10 p.m. crash.
Sgt. Keith Jones, who investigated the wreck for the Highway Patrol, said the Ellison car ran off the left side of the roadway and struck two trees, coming to rest in the ditch.
Ellison’s husband, Gary, who was a passenger in the car, was not seriously injured.
