Mack Miller assumed the duties as Herald correspondent for the Basher community not long after his wife passed away. Today, at age 91, Mack writes about people and happenings in Basher, just as his wife did for nearly 20 years.
In his youth, Mack served in the military, working as a mechanic in the Air Force.
Later, upon his return to Ava, he supported his family by working in the construction business. Mack helped to build many structures in Douglas County and the Ava area, he remembers working on schools, houses, churches, highway department sheds, and factory buildings such as Rawlings here in Ava.
After retirement, Mack and wife Rena Mae enjoyed their free time together and making crafts.
Mack is delighted to have family members nearby, especially since his two daughters, Barbara Breshears and Linda McCleary, assist him in gathering community news for the Herald. Mack also has a son, Bob Miller, who also lives in Mountain Grove.
The community of Basher is located seven miles east of Ava on East 76.
