Historical Society Meets July 19

The Douglas County Historical Society held its monthly meeting on July 19.

President Pat Carmichael called the meeting to order. Sharon read the treasurer’s report and the minutes of the June meeting and they were approved.

It was reported that Sally cleaned the parking lot sign and it sure looks better.

The new sign has been installed on highway 5 north of Ava. Lisa Ritter made the sign and The Harlin family let us install it on their land. It only took us 21 years to accomplish this, but it was worth waiting for.

There was a discussion of publishing a book of Douglas County Schools, so if anyone is interested in putting their school in, please get in touch with the museum at 683-2799.   It will depend on how many stories are turned in with what we do with them, but they will be published.

We also discussed having a display of the Mo. Fox Trotters  in the museum and  Marilyn  is in charge of putting it together.

It is time to turn in your articles for the Winter 2010 Journal; the deadline is Oct. 15.

After a discussion of the room plaques being installed and other changes that have been made in the last month, a motion was made to adjourn by Marilyn and second by Joe.  Our next meeting will be Aug. 16, at the Museum and everyone is welcome.

Those attending were Pat and Joe Carmichael, Tharon Cahon, Jack, Barbara, and Miracle Breshears, Ann Garland, Marilyn Alms. Sally Hicks and Sharon Sanders.
