The 2010 Douglas County Fair opens today (Thursday), and entertainment will kick off tonight with the traditional Fair Queen contest.
Once again this year the Denim Gals contest will consist of three divisions, Petite Princess, Princess and Fair Queen. Preceding the queen contest will be the toddlers Stick Horse class for boys and girls 4 years and under.
Truck and tractor pulls will also be held tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. on the pulling track, and will continue with more classes on Friday night.
The truck and tractor pulls are coordinated by the Southern Missouri Truck and Tractor Pulling Association (SMTTPA). Sanc-tioned classes will be held both nights.
Saturday night’s entertainment will feature the traditional Saturday Night Smash-Up Demolition Derby.
A total of $2,100 will be offered to the winners this year, which includes a $100 bonus to the winning co-driver.
A Powder Puff class will be held immediately following the Feature event.
General exhibits were entered on Wednesday, and the cattle will start coming in today.
Beef cattle must be in place by 8 p.m. Thursday, and will be released at 4 p.m. Friday. Meat goats and sheep also must be in place by 8 p.m. Thursday and will be released at 4 o’clock Friday.
All dairy livestock (cattle and goats) must be in place by 9 p.m. Friday, July 23, and will be released no later that 11 pm. Saturday.
The beef show will be held at 9 a.m. Friday. The meat goat show will be held at 2 p.m., with the sheep show to follow.
The dairy cattle show will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday with the dairy goat show to be held at 12 noon or immediately following the dairy cattle show.
The Douglas County Fairgrounds is located just west of Highway 5, past the MoDOT maintenance building.
