A pool party for 7th-12th grade students is being sponsored by Community Health Assessment Resource Team (CHART) on Wednesday, July 28, at the Ava Water Park from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The pool party is free.
According to organizers, the first 100 students will receive a goody bag. The special bag will contain a water bottle, Frisbee, backpack, pen, pencils, sunglass clip, candy, flashlight keychain, and more.
Students from Douglas County public schools, private schools and home schools are welcome to attend.
CHART is hosting the pool party to promote World No Tobacco Day.
During the evening, Smokebuster advocates will host games which teach about the consequences of chewing tobacco and secondhand smoke. Youths will also have the opportunity to win movie passes and gas cards; however, students must be present to win.
At the conclusion of the evening, a luminary ceremony is planned. Over 300 candles will represent the annual number of Douglas County deaths attributed to smoking.
