The Douglas County Historical Society held its monthly meeting on June 21.
Sharon called the meeting to order. She read the treasurer’s report for the last two months and it was approved. Pat read the minutes for the May meeting and they were approved.
Subjects discussed were election of new officers, sign, parking lot sign, new school pictures, DVD, and Journals.
Our new 2010-11 Officers are President Pat Carmichael, Vice-president Marilyn Alms, Secretary/Treasurer Sharon Sanders, and Ann Garland joins Jack Breashears and Joe Carmichael on the board.
We will be putting a 4’ by 8’ sign out on Highway 5. We are to decide where the best place is to put it.
Joe is in charge of cleaning the sign in our parking lot as its getting a little dirty.
Nina Koehn sent several pictures of schools that we didn’t have. They are Brazeal, Banta, and Frye schools. We would like to have a story on the Frye School. Any information you might have, contact Sharon or the museum.
Our DVD of the schools, towns, and Ava Square pictures is now up to 825 pictures and is in memory of Barbara DeVore, Guy & Doris Gettys and Gordon Dye.
The Summer 2010 Journal is done and ready for sale at the museum or Memory Lane. The deadline for the Winter 2010 Journal is Oct. 15. Drop your stories off at the museum or send them to Sharon Sanders. For information call the museum at 683-5799 during our business hours or call Sharon at 683-2536.
We appreciate the Douglas County Herald for putting our summer hours on the front page last week. We would like to also welcome our newest Lifetime member Sally Hicks. Our next meeting will be July 19 here at the museum.
