Ava Drug Store owner David Norman and the Ava Art Guild are seeking a young artist to design a poster that will be used as a promotion for the upcoming celebration of Ava Drug Store being in business for 60 years.
In 1950 the Ava Drug store was opened just off the square. It was destroyed by fire in 1958 and then rebuilt. It has had many changes over the years but owner David Norman decided to restore the soda fountain inside Ava Drug.
Restoration of the soda fountain began in the fall of 2003 and was completed in April of 2005. The soda fountain was completely restored to its 1958 look and was reopened for business on April 30, 2005.
The soda fountain has again become a gathering place for adults and children. Prices are still very low. Cokes, ice cream and coffee are only a nickel. The Ava Drug Store has stayed true to not only their old time prices but in friendly customer service. Now a celebration of those years of business will be in August.
The poster contest is open to all artists age 16 and under. It can be made with paint, marker, crayon, graphic art and more. The poster board can be picked up at the Ava Art Gallery, 303 E. Washington Ave. There are size restrictions so it is asked that you use the poster board provided or contact the Art Guild for sizes.
All entries must be family friendly and will be displayed at the Ava Art Gallery. No names on the front of the poster and all entries will be judged by David Norman.
The poster contest deadline is July 15 at noon. The winner will get a party for 12 people at the Ava Art Guild and Gallery with the expenses paid by Ava Drug Store.
Now is the time to create a unique poster that will be seen by thousands of people for the Ava Drug Store celebration. For more information Ava Art Guild Gallery 303 E. Washington, Ava Drug or avaartguild@yahoo.com.
